Start as a Windows Service because of crash

I notice occasionally altsnap will crash (my system runs out of RAM often) and the scheduler will not restart it.

Maybe a windows service would be a better way to start altsnap, keep it started ?

@shodanx2, I would prefer to first fix the crashes, AltSnap, should not crash even when the system is out of memory.
Can run the program through a debugger and give me the crash log?

I have since wiped my operating system and this new very clean system doesn't currently have the issue anymore. (It is also missing a lot of stuff, I will update if the issue comes back)

This also happens on a shared computer which me and my friend use via the sunshine application
This computer has an AMD gpu, I think a fire pro wl4100
Sometimes, sunshine crashes and I suspect this is when altsnap dies
But it only rarely and intermittently happens without obvious trigger

I only notice because I try to hotclick and it doesn't work, then I restart altsnap manually.

I will try to pay more attention to the next it happens, but this system is rarely used and it can take weeks for the issue to happen.

If I catch it crashing, I will update this issue.

I agree ideally it should not crash, but resilience of auto-restart mechanism is an added benefit I think. Also would take care of starting process with admin privileges without resorting to task scheduler

you can try to use MSSM to start altsnap as a service:
https://nssm.cc/

I never tried it myself though.
If it works well I can ad the necessary operations directly in AltSnap.exe to handle service mode.
