closed captioning doesn't render

I have found that while the Iridium extension is enabled in Brave browser, I haven't checked other versions Chrome, closed captioning when enabled does not render.
I was very confused for months because I didn't know why I couldn't get closed captioning working. I didn't know it was an extension and not till a week ago did I try disabling Iridium because I couldn't imagine it blocking closed captioning.

1. Enable the Iridium extension
2. refresh the browser tab to activate the extension.
3. turn on closed captioning
4. play a video
5. the captions won't render on top the video

Youtube closed caption doesn't display at all when iridium is enabled. And works again after disabling the extension.
