Unclear error message following failed authentication

Issue reported by a user in the NL experimenting a connection problem from the web app to the web service : "There should be a way to get a more descriptive error message than 'bad email/password', e.g. host unreachable, no connection to database @host, incorrect postgresql version, etc"
