What's Happening After Membership Expired?

I manually expired the membership in WP Ultimo, but nothing happened — the user was not blocked or restricted from accessing the site. Is this the expected behavior? I was expecting the site access to be disabled or redirected after membership expiration.

Yes, you are correct. I tried to manually expire a membership but I still can access the membership. I do not know if it would have a different behavior if a subscription expires in real life, not manually by a superadmin.

I think these things happen with an hourly cron job. Can you try again and give it some time to see if the cron job actions it?

Well, I am testing it with a real scenario. I signed up with only a 1-day trial period and will see what happens tomorrow after it expires.

I found an interesting option under WP Ultimo Settings ⇒ Memberships ⇒ Block Frontend Access after the trial expires. I guess this should do the trick if I am not mistaken.

Well, after the trial period expired, the membership status changed to On Hold. I still can access the subsite dashboard and the subsite frontend and I get this pop up that asks for the payment.

I can skip the pop up and continue using the subsite. I understand that the next status could be expired and the subsite frontend will be blocked. I expected that the subsite dashboard should only show the step to complete the payment.

When I go to account ==> YOUR MEMBERSHIP==> Change, I got redirected to the upgrade page "a page with wu_checkout short code" and got this message "This cart proposes no changes to the current membership."

I am offering the trial period without payment method so don't know if that causes the issue.

I believe that when a membership status becomes Expired, there should be a clear and strong notice within the dashboard, informing the user that frontend access has been disabled and prompting them to complete the payment in order to continue using the site normally.

With our plugin, the current flow requires users to go to their account page, change their membership, and then they are redirected to the page with the [wu_checkout] shortcode to complete the payment. I feel this process is too long and complicated for users who just want to renew or upgrade an expired plan.

A new update. I completed a payment for an expired membership and it changed the status to active, but it set the expire date to only one day after the payment date which is strange, it should set the expiry date to next month, the membership works despite the expiry date passed.

So it needs manual work to set expiry date after the payment is done.

This might be a specific case because I offered trial without payment method so I guess I will try another installation and offer trial normally with payment attached.

A new update, I installed a new network and I offered a free trial period but the user must enter credit card information. The trial was for one day and it expired 3 days ago but the status still Trialing. I expected that the system will attempt to charge the credit card after the trial ends but it didn't happen.

Is it still an issue? Which payment method was it using? If it's stripe check that the web hooks are working.

Yes I used Stripe as the payment method and I believe the webhook works fine. I haven't tested it these days so if we are talking about the same plugin version then yeah, the issue still there.

@superdav42 I was a bit busy the last few days. I launched a new network today and offered a one day trial and I will report the status tomorrow. Please note that I alloed the users to create a membership free trial without a payment method becuase this how I will run the network. After this test I will test the membership status with free trial with Stripe. Thanks.

In the first scenario, "Enable free trial without payment method," the trial period has ended, but the membership status remains set to Trialing. I am required to manually mark the membership as expired.

In the second scenario, "Enable free trial with payment method," the trial ended after one day, and the system correctly charged the card for the monthly fee. It also set the expiration date to the correct date in the following month, and the membership status is now Active.

I have encountered a new issue: when logging into the subsite dashboard, I receive the following error message:

However, I am still able to proceed to the dashboard after clicking on the dashboard link.
