Add argument for column names to be included

Please add an argument for including column names. It should be just like the rownames = TRUE/FALSE in the basic tableHTML function.

Sorry for being vague. I am working on displaying a data frame with which has second header as the main header. I don't want to see the column names of the data frame in the final result. I have attached the code where I want that. If you already have that functionality, could you please lead me there.

tableHTML(df, row_groups = list(rep(2,3), c("a", "b", 'Row Total')), rownames = F, second_headers = list(c(1,2, 2), c(" ",'Col1', 'Column Total')))

Just as we have rownames= F as an argument, it would be very good if we had something for the columns too. I don'r want to see the column names, just the second headers. Please let me know if this makes sense.

I probably need to include this in the documentation in a better way. You can use the headers argument like this:

tableHTML(df, 
          row_groups = list(rep(2,3), c("a", "b", 'Row Total')), 
          rownames = F, 
          headers = rep('', ncol(df)), 
          second_headers = list(c(1,2, 2), c(" ",'Col1', 'Column Total')))

So, practically what you do is hide the headers in the HTML table.

I don't want to remove the original header as I need to call them. I just need to not see them. That's all.

The headers are not removed from the original data frame, they are just not shown on the rendered tableHTML object.

If I run the below code, it does not read the column name as I have removed it with the headers = rep('', ncol(df)), . Even though, it is not removed from the original data frame, I will not be able to do any thing else on it, such as adding background colours, conditional formatting etc.

I see your point. It makes sense that you cannot use column = 'basic.4y1 because that column no longer exists (since new column names were provided).

You can use the index though for that purpose, i.e.

tableHTML(df, row_groups = list(rep(2,3), c("a", "b", 'Row Total')), rownames = F, second_headers = list(c(1,2, 2), c(" ",'Col1', 'Column Total'))) %>% add_css_rows_in_column(css = list('background-color', rep(c('#FFDB58', '#C2DFFF', '#FFDB58'), each = 1)), column = <column_index_here>).

For example (using mtcars since I cannot run your code):

tableHTML(mtcars, headers = rep('', 11)) %>%
 add_css_rows_in_column(css = list('background-color', 
                                   rep(c('red', 'green'), each = 16)),
                        column = 10)

However, I think this makes sense to become more clear in the documentation and / or internally in the code. Maybe I will keep the original names in a list so they can be referenced by the code.

This could work. But this actually has a very small row that we can see in the place of the column names. It is purely aesthetic. But as we are using it for presentation, even small things matter.
It would be very helpful if you had an argument like rownames = F for columns too, which would work like how rownames work for rows, just only for columns.

I hadn't noticed the tiny row, you are right.

This will fix it for sure:

tableHTML(mtcars) %>%
 add_css_rows_in_column(css = list('background-color', 
                                   rep(c('red', 'green'), each = 16)),
                        column = 10) %>%
 replace_html('<th.*th>', '')

But it is a temporary fix until I get the enhancement is developed. replace_html is the function I tend to use as a last resort.
headers = FALSE will be supported in the next version.

It works, but there is a bit of an issue. It removes the second headers also. I want to keep the second headers and not the headers.

In the rownames = F, if there is a row_group, it doe not affect it. So there should be something for the second headers also.
I mean it in the context of the below code

add_css_column(css = list(c('background-color'), c('#BCC6CC')), columns = c('row_groups'))

These are all a part of a very long code I am working on.
