Question: usync roots

Hi Kevin,
I was looking into new roots logic, is there anyway to specify which parts of usync export are part of root? as I would love to make sure only some types are export to root location and most of them being part of normal export.

what I am using currently is little different than docs as i want be able to manage it by other settings:

but in basic way it is same as using json settings.

But with this settings all types end up as part of export in my custompath

I think the logic would be that on your 'root' site everything* gets exported to the "root" uSync folder
and you can tweak that by using the other uSync settings to turn of handlers or exclude things by alias or path using the handler settings.

That would mean other bits of a root site wouldn't then be "synced" to disk, but I would think it's probably best for the root site to serve one purpose and be there for those root settings?

are you trying to use an existing site as a basis for a root for other sites ? or it is something a bit different ?

I am trying to separate some types of existing site to packages, as I am working on
Nugget package so wanted do different roots for different types. Based on your feedback I would need to restart app each time when I want do do types of each of packages, so I might need to investigate if I can modify that behaviour by decorating some of services 🙃

@KevinJump I had look through source code and I found I would be able to do some of changes by replacing uSyncService, but because it is not using interfaces / virtual methods I am not able to override methods. I would be able to add my login by replacing code of

to make conditionally paths where it should export things, however not sure how I can approach it without requesting making some methods virtual, any suggestions?

Hi,

that service is interfaced from v15 :( - but i am not actually sure that's the point you want. i think that export is only called on the export at startup,. there are handler only exports called when the dashboard, or api is used. and these call the ExportHandler methods.

but they all boil down the the Export (ExportAsync in v15) method in the handler.

I think you/we probibly need to alter some of the logic in here :

specifically the call that gets the folder :

var targetFolder = folders.Last();

If we overloaded that, or even had a notification or something it in then potentially you could change it from exporting to the last (so top) folder to the root depending on some logic ?

Without any core code changes you could overload the handlers (e.g ContentHandlerBase) and overload it's export method, to change this.

but it might be easier if we moved the call to get the folder into a virtual ? (e.g GetExportFolder(TObject item,....)) ?

Idea of notifications sound good as would give more flexibility, however GetExportFolder(TObject item,....)) would probably work 🤔
What I am trying to do is to have project like this:
Library Project

• usync files trom specific folders in umbraco structure for types etc

Library Project 2

• usync files trom specific different folders in umbraco structure for types etc

Website Project

• all other usync files not included in that folders
