gamemode causes serious issues in a few of my Steam games on new Lunar Lake chip #557

Describe the bug
I have a brand-new Thinkpad X1 with Core Ultra 7 258v. Running Fedora 43 KDE. I use gamemoderun %command% on all of my Steam games. There are two games in particular where this causes the game to be unplayable:
Halo MCC: game freezes and crashes frequently
Battlefront 2 (2017): game has horrific input lag and stuttering

Removing gamemode from the launch options for both of these solved the issues and they now run perfectly.

To Reproduce
Steps used to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Acquire Thinkpad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 or similar Lunar Lake 258v machine with Fedora 43 KDE
  2. Run game Halo MCC or Battlefront 2 (2017) via Steam with gamemoderun %command% in launch options
  3. Observe that Halo MCC freezes and crashes frequently, and Battlefront 2 has horrific input lag unless power profile is in Performance (which is not feasible as the machine thermal throttles badly)

Expected behavior
Games should not freeze, crash, or stutter/lag when using gamemoderun %command% in launch options

System Info (please complete the following information):

  • OS and version: Fedora 43 KDE, kernel 6.17.12
  • GameMode Version: not sure how to find this. Current Steam rpm version is 1766177208

Additional context
I previously ran these games in Fedora KDE on a 2010 Mac Pro w/RX580, and that machine had zero issues with gamemode, leading me to suspect a CPU compatibility problem. Note that the system was literally the same OS/data, I just moved my hard drive out of it and into my new Thinkpad.
