Unable to convert a brand new singleplayer vanilla character to PD2.

Thanks for creating Project Diablo!
In singleplayer vanilla Diablo2+LoD i made a new lvl1 Barbarian and gave him a bunch of Token of Absolution (inventory & stash) and gold with Hero Editor 1.04.

Then i used this PD2 Converter to try changing the save from vanilla to PD2 so i can use the gold and the Tokens for my offline PD2 (i only play offline since i dont like the season resets).

However the convert process always fails with a simple "couldn't save" message.

on a side note i could not get the "PD2-Singleplayer" collection of items & characters to work, so i tried using this converter but i could not make it work either

Same issue. Some of my D2 chars don't convert, including a brand new level 1 with no exp yet (to test conversion). Converter fails with same message couldn't save. But some chars converted just fine.

Any ideas what could be causing this?
