• manageable number of terms
• clear scope/definition for 'type of specimen' concept.
• Test bed for 'Community of Practice' (Ontologists + Subject Matter Experts)
• Example for endorsement by national committees.

Specimen types vary according to the 'type' of organism. For instance, types of entomology specimens are quite distinct from pathology (e.g. fungi).
This could be dealt with by creating a hierarchy or including a 'related' field... It would be good to look at the options from an RDF point of view.
