HTML `<tt></tt>` tag causes text to be in code block

When using the <tt></tt> tag the rendered text within is displayed as if it were marked with <code></code> tag.

Hm, what were you expecting? I haven't come across the <tt> tag before, but it looks like it's obsolete and the <code> tag is recommended instead. More importantly, it's intended for the same purpose as the <code> tag, no?

Previously, prior to the last forum update, the tt tag formatted the contained text to a mono space font; now it renders a code which makes posts look ugly. A lot of the templates people use for reports and such contain it. As an example, look at the signature area at the bottom of these posts.

That's really strange...it's actually replacing the tag with a <code> tag. I can't imagine why. <tt> is still in the default list of allowed html elements 🤔 Do we use <code> for anything elsehwere? Perhaps we should just turn off the enhanced styling of <code> then if we can't figure this out?
